Hello and welcome to The ChatterBox Scripts Page

For-the-people.com would like to thank both

and Doug Lee, For-the-people's very own Doug Lee
For the many hours of work they put into keeping the scripts up to date
and the technical support they give us all on the scripts.

We have changed our format for the script installer. Now, it doesn’t matter what JAWS version or operating system you have. If you have JAWS version 4.0 or above, you will click on the link that says ChatterBox Scripts, and then simply run or open the installer, and follow the directions to install. It’s as simple as that.

During the installation, the installer will look at your system and give you a choice of which JAWS version on your computer you wish to install the scripts into. That is assuming you have more than one version of JAWS on your computer. If you only have one version of JAWS on your computer, the installer will know that and install the scripts where they need to go.

Important Note:

When running the installer, you will get to a screen which happens to be the last screen of the install process. On this screen will be a check box, and JAWS will announce “Recompile recommended”. You should leave this checkbox checked as you press the Finish button. JAWS will automatically recompile the scripts for the version into which they are installed.

If you use the Merge utility to import earlier ChatterBox settings into JAWS 8, not all of the ChatterBox script files will be imported . Specifically, you will be without the script sounds such as the beep you hear when people stop talking, so I recommend you run the new script installer for JAWS 4.0 and above.

Steve has made a set of doorbells that go well with the scripts. Not too loud, and not too soft. There are other sets of doorbells elsewhere in the “ChatterBox Related” section of this site. If you’d like to try Shep’s doorbells, click on the following link to run the doorbell installer

Note: If you install the doorbells, you will need to re-enable the Doorbell feature by pressing Alt D once you get into a room.
